The steel industry will remain a basic industry also in the future and the need for cost reduction will remain a driving force for globalization and consolidation. Current trends in the steel industry today point to the eventual introduction and adoption of continuous steelmaking, strip casting and, in the long term, hydrogen metallurgy. There will be a growing number of partnerships between steel producers, manufacturers of steel products and suppliers of technology. Marketing and image strategies for steel must be re-evaluated in order to increase the total market value of this basic industrial segment.
