Argon-oxygen mixtures were bubbled through the melt. A solid electrolyte cell determined the oxygen partial pressure of the evolving gas. The residence time of the gas bubbles is sufficient to bring down the initial oxygen partial pressure of the gas mixture to its equilibrium value with the melt. For temperatures of 1127 and 1206 degree C a linear relation was found between the activity of oxygen and its concentration up to 0. 24 wt. percent.
