Niobium is a refractory metal which has enjoyed considerable growth since the 1960's due mainly to its use as an alloying element in steels and superalloys. There are also a number of applications which utilize niobium's high temperature and superconducting properties. The review by the Tantalum-Niobium International Study Center in Brussels outlines some of these applications.
