With a view to mixing electric power resources, coal fired power plants are increasing in number. With the recent increase in the nuclear power generating ratio, large capacity units designed for a cycling duty basis, and which can correspond to wide variations of electric load demand, are becoming more important. Therefore, the operation of coal fired boilers must be improved, with particular attention to demand control and strengthened environmental pollution countermeasures. Thus, Babcock-Hitachi K.K. applied large capacity boiler and high efficient coal combustion techniques to Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.'s Hekinan Thermal Power Station Unit No. 2 as a typical urban, coal fired sliding pressure boiler unit, and confirmed the anticipated performance.
