AUTOMATIC TEST EQUIPMENT (PAT) FOR TELEPHONE SUBSCRIBER CONNECTIONS.

This article describes an automatic test equipment, PAT, used by the Swiss PTT. This equipment could be taken into service once the FEPAM system had been introduced (FEPAM is the collective name for remote-controlled testing, alarm transmission and measuring equipment installed in the Swiss PTT's conventional telephone exchanges). Using PAT, the installation and maintenance personnel can, from any subscriber telephone set, carry out measurements and functional checks on the telephone installation itself. The assistance of personnel from the fault repair service department is no longer required.
