FEATURES OF THE TEMPERATURE AND WIND DISTRIBUTIONS IN THE UPPER ATMOSPHERE.

The annual-average distributions of temperature and wind over Heiss Island and Volgograd at altitudes of 100-120 km are reported. Patterns in the variations of these characteristics over the year are determined. The differences obtained between the temperatures and winds at these two stations can be used to estimate the latitude effect in the distribution of the atmosphere's parameters. Conclusions are drawn with respect to the general circulation in the upper atmosphere. Differences in the vertical extent of stratospheric-mesospheric formations and in the nature of the season transformations are established. Hypotheses are advanced concerning possicauses of semiannual harmonics in the upper stratosphere and lower mesosphere.
