Buckling strength and optimum parameters of hybrid fiber cylindrical shells under external pressure

A theoretical formula with weighted factor and ply-orientation as parameters for hybrid or orthotropic cylindrical shells is given. The applicable conditions are discussed. A discriminant to identify whether the optimum parameters are extreme points is proposed for hybrid fiber cylindrical shells under external pressure. The examples given in this paper show that the formula can be used not only to determine the optimum parameters for hybrid fiber cylindrical shells, but can also be used to find out the optimum fiber content and the ply orientations of fiber for homogenous fiber reinforced cylindrical shells.
