Since the early nineteen fifties, when the first single stage oil injected sliding vane air compressors operating at a constant seven bar were introduced, their development has been both rapid and effective. Each year sliding vane compressors take an increasing share of both the stationary and portable markets. Today they are fully proven and acceptable in a multiplicity of applications throughout the world. This article reviews major components, features and operation of the machinery, automatic removal of oil from the compressed air, oil selection, safety systems, and future developments.
