Vibration welding: A materials technology view of a mass-production method

Linear vibration welding is one of the friction welding processes. The parts to be joined are rubbed against one another in an oscillating translational fashion until the materials in the area of contact melt and meld or flow together. The vibration is then stopped and the material allowed to cool and form a permanent joint. Some of the topics discussed include weld structure, internal stresses, and mechanical properties of the welds.
