Reciprocating compressors are worth being reconsidered with renewed interest by operators of offshore production platforms, following their very good performance in several heavy duty installations. Their functional flexibility is particularly advantageous as the variable operating production requirements can be met without necessitating major modifications or jeopardizing the usual high efficiency. Units for fairly large powers, using gas turbine drivers, have been manufactured; they will perform high pressure reinjection service.
