摘要
The coefficient of consolidation changes during the consolidation. A numerical analysis using the finite element method was performed for the prediction of the average degree of consolidation taking the coefficient of consolidation as a variable during the consolidation analysis. An equation for the coefficient of consolidation is derived and an equation for the relation between the coefficient of permeability and the effective stress is presented. These equations are used for the numerical analysis of the average degree of consolidation. The results by the numerical analysis are compared with the results by experiment and the results calculated using the equations of Sivaram and Swamee (1977) and Terzaghi. The effect of the size of loading for the average degree of consolidation is also discussed. © 2004 ejge.
