Precipitation behavior and its effects on properties of rapidly solidified Cu-Zr alloy

The microstructure, mechanical and electrical properties of rapidly solidified Cu-Zr alloy during aging precipitation were investigated with TEM. The results show that there are a great increase of microhardness in the premise of higher electric conductivity for the alloy. After aging at 550°C for 2 h, the electric conductivity remains as high as 82% IACS and the microhardness is enhanced to about Hv 230. The aging precipitate is globular Cu5Zr, which keeps coherent with the matrix.
