A final gas cooler with plane-parallel packing and tube irrigation device was adopted at the Dnepropetrovsk Coke Works, USSR. In order to develop the optimal technological regime for the final gas cooler (FGC), a series of industrial tests were conducted, in the course of which, at fixed values of the coke oven gas flow, there were changes in the quality of the water going to the FGC. The temperature of the coke oven gas after the FGC, the hydraulic resistance, the naphthalene concentration in the gas ahead of and after the FGC, and the losses of benzene hydrocarbons with the return coke oven gas were determined. The results of these investigations are presented.
