The paper deals with the role of x-ray CAT in the diagnosis of renal tumors. Based on their findings in 589 patients with bulky formations in the kidneys, in 113 of whom the diagnoses were verified intraoperatively and histologically, the authors have shown the informative value of this method for the differential diagnosis of bulky formations of the kidneys. X-Ray CAT helped detect the tumors less than 3 cm in diameter and specify the organ appurtenance of large retroperitoneal neoformations. The method is valuable for the diagnosis of renal tumors with cystic degeneration, its sensitivity in such cases being 85.7%. The stage of renal carcinoma was accurately assessed in 81.5% of patients. Remore metastases to the liver, lungs, brain, etc. were sufficiently well imaged. Comparative analysis of the role of ultrasonic examinations and x-ray CAT in the diagnosis of renal tumors has demonstrated the superior potentialities of x-ray CAT.
