A simple solar water heater intended for use in tropical areas such as Indonesia has been built and preliminary performance tests run under Melbourne conditions. As the major mode of heat loss is due to condensation of the glass it seems reasonable to collect this distillate for household consumption. A solar heater-still combination is built and performance figures are presented. Solar still theory in SI units and generalized curves are presented for determination of solar still and water heating performance. A comparison is made between theoretical and experimental performance of the combination solar still-water heater.
