Performance and kinetics of low-temperature, aerobic sludge digestion

A study was performed to develop guidelines and a kinetic evaluation for low-temperature aerobic digestion of waste activated sludge. With high-rate activated sludge as feed, various modes of digestion were studied at lab scale, at 20 degree C, 10 degree C, 5 degree C, and at various sludge ages. Temperature significantly influenced aerobic digestion performance. Reasonable correlation was demonstrated between laboratory and full-scale digestion data.
