This paper deals with the behavior of a bore on a uniformly sloping beach caused by a sudden release of water mass. Basic equations are derived on the basis of the Whitham's assumptions in the dam-break flow analysis. In the derivation of their solution, the ratio of water particle velocity to bore-front velocity is assumed to depend only on the initial water depth across the bore-front and is evaluated theoretically. The model is also applied to the dam-break flows over a uniformly sloping bed. The comparison of the theoretical and the experimental results shows that it well describes the behavior of dam-break flows in the intermediate stage.
