摘要
In pouring alloys, ranging from pure aluminum to Al-35% Cu, into a cast iron permanent mold employing an electrically heated box to keep the riser molten a stagnation point was found, beyond which molten metal will not feed. Grain refining improves feeding characteristics for any alloy composition - so do a more compact feeder and enlarging the feeder neck. Colder chills do not improve feeding distance or feeding time, but molds of lower thermal conductivity (such as sand) do so for non-eutectic alloys.
