ECOLOGY RATINGS - A NEW FRONTIER.

The history of packaging may be materially altered by emerging new methods of assessing the environmental ″costs″ of bottles, cans, boxes, bags and every other type of container and component. Such ecology ratings purpose to identify the material or container that causes the least drain on natural resources especially those that are scarce or endangered, including energy, and that contributes the least amount of pollution or is the smallest waste-disposal problem. This paper reviews several studies on the subject made by various research institutes. It is concluded that the environmental-impact studies may have shattering impact on future packages.
