The Shul'binsk Hydroelectric Power Plant, being built on the Irtysh River in northeastern Kazakhstan, is a plant of the mixed type: the bottom spillways are located in the hydroelectric power plant building beneath the spiral chambers of the hydrogenerating units. The main difficulty in developing the flow-through part of the hydraulic turbines of the Shul'binsk Hydroelectric Power Plant consisted of ensuring the use of the same equipment during both the first and second operating phases of the plant with a difference in maximum heads of 20 m. This article will not describe the design of the main mechanisms of the turbine, but merely consider some of their features.
