Ian Stevenson made John Palmer a research associate for his first job in parapsychology. Palmer and his colleagues were not much into survival research although their Division were more on the research on the question of survival of death. Their Division focuses on the research of out-of-body experiences (OBEs) and to explore the psychological correlates of the experience and its relation to ESP. Palmer was tasked to do the screening of mediums for possible extended research at the Division. And when Palmer left the Division, his contacts with Stevenson were mostly concerned with the American Society for Psychical Research. Stevenson was primarily had an interest on research regarding reincarnation or better yet on what he defined as research on children who remember previous lives. Stevenson focused on looking for evidences for his research for which it made his works the most important intellectual contribution to survival research.
