A simulation of active suspension system with motor actuator

Electric motor is adopted as the actuator of active suspension system. The control of vehicle roll is realized by means of the output moment of actuator's stabilizer bar and the energy consumption of actuator is reduced by controlling the current output of actuator motor. A design scheme of suspension system is proposed with vehicle roll analyzed. Then a motor actuator is designed, produced and bench tested, verifying it meets the design requirements. A simulation environment for suspension system is established with Dymola, CarSim and MATLAB/Simulink software and a simulation is conducted. The results show that with a reduced motor current output, the actual twist angle and output torque of actuator basically meet the design requirements and the active suspension system with motor actuator can effectively reduce the energy consumption of vehicle.
