In order to compensate the lens axial position error in macrolens array based integral imaging display system, a calibration method of the reconstruction degradation caused by the lens axial position error is proposed. The dispersive spot size of a reconstructed point is employed as a measurement metric to investigate the characteristic of the reconstruction degradation, and further calibration of the elemental image pixel remapping algorithm is proposed to compensate the lens axial position error, where the real working distance between the lens and liquid crystal display (LCD) is measured, and the elemental image pixels are rearranged accordingly. The experimental results show good agreement in the theoretical prediction of reconstruction degradation and indicate that the proposed calibration method can effectively reduce the influence of the lens axial position error and improve the reconstruction quality of the integral imaging display system. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd
