摘要
Large number of perennial springs originating from different combinations of geologic, geomorphic and structural settings present in Chhattisgarh State form potential resource for water supply. However, so far the springs have not been given due weightage as a possible supplementary source of fresh water. In the present study the springs of Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh State, originating from consolidated to semi consolidated aquifers are investigated in detail to highlight their occurrence, distribution, origin, discharge and water quality aspects. It has been inferred from the study that better management of these springs can possibly enhance the discharge and sustainability of these springs. It is suggested that an inventory of all such springs, as a first step towards management of these resources, is to be taken up immediately in Chhattisgarh and adjoining segments of Peninsular India. © 2014 CAFET-INNOVA TECHNICAL SOCIETY.
