More and more companies are innovating their business models by offering Product-Service Systems. This is accompanied by various challenges in operative service planning and scheduling. This study examines the nature of service planning and scheduling in four different companies. It turns out that the plans are generated manually, and service planning decisions are based on the subjective experiences of the planners and thus any potential for optimization is not exploited. © 2023 Walter de Gruyter GmbH, Berlin/Boston, Germany.
