Based on the interval theory, an interval finite element method for the coupled composite material structural-acoustic system is proposed, and an interval reliability optimization model is established considering the uncertainty in both the system and external loads. Firstly, the interval is used to quantitatively describe all the uncertain parameters and the finite-finite element equation for the interior acoustic field is derived. With the modified interval Taylor expansions, the response range of coupled systems could be quickly predicted. Subsequently, the possible-degree formula of intervals is introduced to establish the reliability optimization model. Finally, the optimal designs of layer angle and thickness in a composite laminate model are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed model and algorithm. ©, 2014, Nanjing University of Aeronautics an Astronautics.
