A kind of zero-phosphorus and sulphur nitrogen-containing heterocyclics, lauric acid-N-quinazolin-4-one methylester(LQM), was prepared and the structure of it was characterized by elementary analysis, FT-IR and 13C-NMR spectra data, whose tribological properties as a new-type lubricating additive in liquid paraffin was evaluated on the MMW-1P all-purpose friction and wear simulation tester and HQ-1 ring-block simulation tester. Its thermal stability was also investigated. The surface morphologies of friction pairs lubricated with liquid paraffin, 1.0% LQM+liquid paraffin, 2.0% LQM+liquid paraffin were respectively observed by means of scanning electron microscope and optical microscope. The results indicated that the LQM exhibited good thermal stalibility, and could enhance the load-carrying capability when added in liquid paraffin, and obviously improve the anti-wear and friction-reducing properties of the base stock.
