Building a passive-active radio-meteorological measuring system based on dual-frequency radar

The concept of constructing a two-range passive-active radio-meteorological measuring system has been developed. In each range, the active and passive channels are mutually synchronized and operate simultaneously using a combined receiving and transmitting antenna, which ensures observation of radio-thermal self-radiation and reflections of probing signals from meteorological objects in the same volume. This permits to increase the information content of the system, to study the evolution of clouds, to improve the measurement accuracy of their water content and precipitation intensity and to display the meteorological situation in real time in two frequency ranges. Such advantages are provided by a high degree of isolation between the active and passive channels in the two frequency ranges due to adjusting the frequency of the local oscillator of the passive channel to the center frequency of the frequency range of the active channel. © 2019 by Begell House, Inc.
