Rapid determination of 2-Butanone, 2-Pyrrolidone and N-Methyl pyrrolidone in leather by UPLC

A simple method using ultra performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) with Photo-Diode Array detector (PDA) has been developed for the determination of 2-Butanone, 2-Pyrrolidone and N-Methyl pyrrolidone in leather samples. 0.1% sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate aqueous solution was used for the ultrasonic extraction at 40°C. Under optimal conditions, the quantification limits for the desired compounds ranging from 20 to 40μg l-1were obtained. The recoveries were higher than 91.6%. The proposed method was successfully applied to the determination of the target compounds in leather samples with a higher sensitivity and simpler extraction than traditional gas chromatography methods. © 2014, Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists.
