Technical Committee on Variable Structure and Sliding Mode Control [Technical Activities]

The IEEE Control Systems Society’s (CSS’s) Technical Committee (TC) on Variable Structure and Sliding Mode Control (VSSMC) is one of the oldest TCs. It was created in 1997 and has since grown to include 120-plus members. The field of research has shifted more toward the mainstream in terms of the control community at large. The TC’s main goal is to facilitate the coordination of the scientific groups working in the field worldwide. One of its most important activities is the organization of the biennial IEEE Variable Structure Systems (VSS) Workshop (usually cosponsored by the CSS), others include publishing special issues in journals, organizing specialist graduate courses, summer schools, and preconference workshops on different aspects of sliding mode control theory, and organizing special sessions at major control conferences.
