In secondary metallurgy RH technology has been established as a dominant tool for mass production of high-quality vacuum treated steel. This paper outlines the design of state-of-the-art RH plants. The main components of a RH plant are described with special focus on critical characteristics. Different plant concepts are suited to reflect the specific demand of individual local necessities.
