Experimental research on co-catalytic pyrolysis of biomass and waste oil in a fluidized bed

Catalytic and co-catalytic pyrolysis of biomass and waste oil were conducted in a fluidized bed with ZSM-5 catalyst. The effects of reaction temperature, weight hourly space velocity (WHSV) and hydrogen to carbon effective (H/Ceff) ratio on the product distribution of waste oil pyrolysis and co-catalytic pyrolysis with biomass were studied. The results show that the maximum petrochemical (olefins, aromatics and C5 compounds) yield of 53.9% was attained at the temperature of 550°C and WHSV of 0.35 h-1 for catalytic pyrolysis of waste oil. The co-catalytic pyrolysis of biomass and waste oil increased the olefin and aromatic yields dramatically. The propylene selectivity is higher than 60% when the H/Ceff ratio is higher than 0.8.
