Resource allocation of the power line communication system for mixed traffics

Two important objectives of the multi-user power-line communication system is to make full use of the frequency resources and to improve the service performance of the system. The problem of orthogonal frequency division multiplexting (OFDM) system resource allocation for mixed traffics under the constraints on power spectrum density (PSD) is discussed and a novel algorithm with low complexity is presented. The algorithm decomposes the complex non-linear optimal problem into three steps. Firstly, resource allocation is made for the real-time traffics to guarantee the quality of service (QoS). Then the proportional fair algorithm is used for allocating the remaining resources to the non real-time traffics. Finally, signal power transmission is limited by decreasing the bits of the non-real-time traffics. The algorithm is tested in the typical power line channels. Simulation results show that the algorithm can ensure the QoS of the real-time traffics and enhance the total throughput of the system under the premise of guaranteeing fairness. Meanwhile, the algorithm can be satisfied with the transmit power and PSD restrictions of the system. © 2010 Chin.Soc.for Elec.Eng.
