The US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA); in collaboration with AWWA and other major industry groups; is starting an initiative to achieve sustainable water infrastructure. The Sustainable Infrastructure Initiative aims at better utility management; full-cost pricing; water efficiency; and a watershed-based approach to infrastructure planning. Some of the action plans that are frequently discussed for sustainable infrastructure are clarity regarding the level of service; operational efficiency; water management; source water protection; utility right-sizing and institutional structure; and full-cost pricing. USEPA signed an agreement with AWWA and other five leading water and wastewater associations; called the Statement of Intent of Effective Water Sector Utility Management. The agreement formalized a collaborative effort to promote effective utility management across the entire water sector;
