An adaptive optics system based on a model-free optimization technique (particle swarm optimization-PSO) is simulated to correct the wave-front aberration. The system is composed of a 61- element deformable mirror (DM) and an imaging system. PSO is used to generate control signals for actuators of DM according to the information of imaging system. We investigate the usability and effectiveness of PSO using two different distorted wave-fronts. Simulation results show the adaptive optics system based on PSO has the ability to correct static as well as slowly changing dynamic aberrations and has strong adaptability to different distorted wave-fronts. Results also show the convergence speed will become slow and the correction capability will become weak as the level of wave-front distortion increases.
