Unbalance responses of magnetic bearing rotor system with passive electromagnetic damper

A passive electromagnetic damper is designed to control the vibration of the magnetic bearing rotor system. Firstly, the passive electromagnetic damper is presented to support the rotor, and the damper force produced by the passive electromagnetic damper is controlled by the current. Secondly, based on the finite element software NASTRAN, the unbalance responses of the rotor system are calculated on different damper values. Finally, the experiments of unbalance responses are done at the high speed with different dampers. Simulations and experiments show that the unbalance vibration can be suppressed by the passive electromagnetic damper, and the magnetic bearing rotor system with the passive electromagnetic damper can pass through the first bending critical speed 15 600 r/min and run stably at the speed of 21 000 r/min.
