Partial discharge monitoring for all power equipment in substation is one of the developing direction of insulation condition monitoring. In recent years, Partial discharge monitoring using UHF sensor array is a new proposed method. This paper discusses in detail the basic principle and key technology of partial discharge detection and locating by calculating the time delays of partial discharge pulse signals from the same source received by UHF sensors of an array, including the signal propagation, time delay estimation, location algorithm, the locating accuracy. The proposes about the application condition and function promotion of the monitoring system are given based on the simulation experiments on the real power equipment and daily examples. ©, 2014, Diangong Jishu Xuebao/Transactions of China Electrotechnical Society.
