Ancillary facilities on the site of water treatment facilities should not be overlooked, especially during emergency events. Prepared plant managers and engineers in the Houston area identified and corrected vulnerabilities in both primary and ancillary infrastructure well ahead of a perfect storm.. The East Water Purification Plant's improved stormwater system played a critical role in the region's resilience and recovery, and the utility's stormwater pumps successfully prevented the plant from flooding during the event. © 2019 American Water Works Association
