Ford Global Paint Engineering and Ford Scientific Research Laboratories, worked jointly with the Diamonex Products Division of Morgan Advanced Ceramics, to develop a new ceramic coating technology that can extend the life of paint bell cups and offer a significant cost savings for rotary paint atomizer users. The new technology can help rotary paint atomizer users, to locate and test a low-cost and durable surface coating that will not degrade, reduce overall transfer efficiency, compromise customer quality, or damage the mechanical functionality of the paint equipment. The laboratories of these organizations investigated the use of silicon doped amorphous carbon surface coating for developing the technology and material required for the paint bell cup application. All these organizations are making efforts to make the ceramic coatings available to original equipment manufacturers and rotary paint atomizer users.
