Experimental research on rectangular tubed reinforced concrete (RTRC) stub columns and stiffened rectangular tubed reinforced concrete (RTRC-S) stub columns under axial compression is conducted, to investigate the axial loading behavior under static axial compression. The test results indicated that RTRC columns significantly increased the axial bearing capacity and significantly improved the ductility of RC columns. The columns with stiffeners exhibited much higher bearing capacity and better ductility than RTRC columns because the stiffeners can give full play to the confining effect of steel tube and increase the effective confined area.
