Here; aiming at problems of difficulty to establish an accurate nonlinear theoretical analysis model for tuned liquid column damper (TLCD); and high cost and time-consuming for its mechanical performance tests; firstly; computational fluid dynamics (CFD) numerical simulation method was used to simulate mechanical performance and dynamic characteristics of a TLCD system. Then; a coupled analysis method based on computational fluid dynamics/ computational structural dynamics (CFD/CSD) was further proposed to solve wind-induced dynamic responses of high-rise building structures with TLCD systems. Tests for mechanical properties and dynamic characteristics of a certain TLCD system under specific bottom excitations were conducted to obtain free liquid surface wave heights and sloshing force time histories of liquid sloshing inside the TLCD system. It was shown that the proposed CFD/CSD coupled simulation method can correctly analyze nonlinear sloshing characteristics of liquid inside the TLCD system. Subsequently; the benchmark model for vibration control of 76-story building structure widely used in wind engineering field was adopted. It was assumed that a TLCD system is installed at the model top. The wind-induced vibration control efficiency of the model main structure under 3 wind speed return periods of 10; 50 and 100 years corresponding to crosswind dynamic wind load was analyzed with numerical simulation using the proposed CFD/CSD coupled analysis method. The coupled analysis results showed that TLCD system has a certain control effect on wind-induced acceleration; velocity and displacement responses of the Benchmark model; the control effect on acceleration response is better than that on displacement response; the proposed study method can provide an effective reference for analyzing wind induced vibration control of high-rise buildings with complex TLCD systems. © 2024 Chinese Vibration Engineering Society.
