Influence of solvent with salts on the vapour-liquid equilibrium of alcohol-water systems

The influence of solvent with salts on three systems, ethanol-water, ten-butanol-water and isopropanol-water was discussed. The experimental results of vapour-liquid equilibrium at normal atmosphere showed that the relative volatilities of alcohol to water which were 2.56, 2.68 and 2.67 respectively for the three systems at azeotropic point were effectively raised by solvent with salts. The best salts were CaCl2 and KAc. The mechanism was the difference of actions to alcohol and water by solvent and salts at the same time.
