The problem concerning the motion of incompressible viscoelastic fluids for which the extra-stress tensor τ is given by a differential constitutive equation of Oldroyd type was studied. A local in time existence result of viscoelastic isothermal unsteady flow with differential constitutive equation was proven. The local existence of flows for Maxwell-type equations, for which an ellipticity condition is assumed (case of the so-called hypoelastic materials) was studied. The existence of local in time solutions to a White-Metzner model, for which the viscosity and the relaxation time depend on the rate of deformation tensor was also proven.
