Comprehensive solving method for arc-type well-path planning model

To obtain the concise, effective, fast and sufficiently-precise solving method for the design model of arc-type well-path, this paper proposes a comprehensive solving method involving the analysis, scanning and iteration, and explores two typical arc-type well-path, i.e., three-section path and five-section path, as well as their initial value problems. For the three-section path, an analytical calculation formula is directly given using its geometric properties; for the five-section path, two types of constraint conditions are distinguished according to the inclination angle or azimuth angle for both target and middle holding section, respectively. Moreover, this paper has established a simple constraint equation for model parameters, and puts forward a comprehensive solving method that solves the problem by scanning the spectrum, using this result as the initial value for iterative solution afterward. The research results show that the proposed algorithm is simple and practical, easy to implement by programming, and has application value in the design of three-dimensional directional wells and horizontal wells. © 2021, Editorial Office of ACTA PETROLEI SINICA.
