Das' areas of teaching interest are applied stochastic processes; quality and reliability engineering. Current research interests include simulation based optimization of competitive and noncompetitive semiMarkov decision processes using reinforcement learning; design and control of service type systems (e.g; restructured power markets); and design of quality monitoring systems for multivariate processes using wavelet based multi-resolution analysis. He received his Ph.D; from Texas A&M University in 1989 and currently serves as a professor of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering at the University of South Florida; Tampa; Florida. He has received several research grants from the National Science Foundation and has served as the co-chair of the 2001 NSF Design; Service and Manufacturing Grantees and Research Conference;
