A cone-plate viscometer has been used to measure the viscosity of polyolefin hot-melt adhesives. Viscosity measurements have been performed over a wide temperature range at decreasing shearing stresses. Mathematical equations have been derived to calculate the wetting, tackiness and initial adhesion values for hot-melt and pressure-sensitive adhesives from the results of viscosity measurements and from viscosity-temperature curves.
