The technical studies of network fault monitoring based on SNMP

With the development of communication and network technology, more and more enterprises and organizations establish computer network system related with their key business. Network fault monitoring is the basic guarantee for the normal operation of network management system. SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is the factual standard in network management industry and it is mainly applied to network fault management. First of all, this paper analyzes the SNMP and the content related with network fault monitoring technology, and an overall design of network fault monitoring system is made. In the framework, polling topology adaptive algorithm (TSP) is designed, and the overall system is established. The main functions of NFMS include: equipment management, user management, equipment data collection, data warehousing, threshold settings, failure receiving, traffic monitoring, performance monitoring, and so on.
