Courts fuel insurance worries

Insurance companies have refused to renew liability cover for engineers engaged in the railway infrastructure works. Pending cases in the courts against the engineers, accused for the derailment and mismangement, are the main cause of worry for the insurance companies. The results of the trials against the engineers charged with manslaughter, in the resilient wheel broke up in the derailment incident of ICE1 on June 3, 1998 and derailment incident of at Hatfield on 17 October, 2000, are still awaited. Certain private companies dealing in the Wheel-Rail Interface and Train Protection & Warning System are also facing the trouble as the they have now been refused professional indemnity cover.
