Sequential optimization has been successfully used on a 570 MW, twin furnace, tangentially coal-fired unit and the results of this project are discussed in this article. 'Parallel Coordinates' was used to visualize and track the path of this optimizer. With this technology, previously undetectable local optima and regions where desired performance could never be obtained are readily visible.
