Maintenance of the high-speed train fleet in operation

Train reliability, availability and maintenance costs have been improving consistently over the two decades of operating high-speed trains. Such improvements are being made under contracts with the SNCF's Mainline business sector. Those contracts have resulted in much better availability and reliability. Unexpectedly, higher availability achieved through improved reliability has been accompanied by a significant decrease in maintenance costs, which by now dropped to a level of roughly 2 euros per kilometer.
